WordFlight COPPA Direct Notice to Parents
Independent Accounts
This notice is regarding your child’s Foundations in Learning, Inc. (“WordFlight”) Independent Account. We value the privacy of our authors and adhere to the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA). This notice describes our practices of collecting, using and disclosing personal information from children under the age of 18.
Parental Consent Required
During the Independent Account creation process, WordFlight requests confirmation of your child’s age. Since your child is under 18 years old, your parental consent is required to authorize your child’s WordFlight Independent Account.
We will not collect, use, or disclose any personal information from your child unless you provide your consent.
You are the owner of both the Independent Account and, as the owner of such account, have the duty to manage its use. This includes the requirement that only you allow the disclosure of personal information for any child under the age of 18 who is using your Independent Account with your consent.
You, as the parent/guardian, are the primary account holder. This means that:
- You are the person primarily responsible for ordering services and paying any fees or other charges made to your WordFlight Independent Account.
- You are responsible for deciding whether to share your child’s content with third parties as set forth in the WordFlight Privacy Policy.
- You are responsible for the active monitoring of your child’s content. Children who are under the age of 18 are expressly prohibited from including any personally identifiable information in any content that they post to our website unless or until their parents or legal guardians give permission. You agree that you will only allow your child to include any personally identifiable information in their content with your consent.
Information We Collect
- During the initial registration process, we collect the child’s username, password and parent or legal guardian’s email address. Any information provided by the child is not used to contact the child unless or until we receive your consent.
- When we receive consent from you, we may collect additional personally identifiable information from you, at that time.
- We do not condition a child’s participation in an activity on the disclosure of more personally identifiable information than is reasonably necessary to participate in the activity.
How We Use The Information
We may use the personally identifiable information that we collect from a child to:
- Contact you to obtain your consent and to allow you to activate an account on one or more of our websites.
- Provide services to your child using WordFlight.
- Provide information that we believe would be of interest or benefit to you or your child.
Disclosure of Information to Third Parties
We may share personally identifiable information, including a child’s personally identifiable information, with third parties as permitted by law and as described in our Privacy Policy which is hereby incorporated by reference.
The third parties to whom we disclose personally identifiable information must agree to protect the security and confidentiality of your child’s personally identifiable information.
Parental Consent
As noted above, we need your consent before we permit your child to use the WordFlight website at home. You may provide your consent in one of two ways:
- Complete the Parental Consent and Acknowledgment portion of the WordFlight enrollment process and submit payment for a subscription to WordFlight via debit or credit card when prompted; or
