There is a literacy crisis in the United States that has not been solved in the last 30 years. WordFlight, developed by Foundations in Learning, is a personalized reading program that supports fluency development for students in grades 2 and above. Our mission is to unlock educational opportunity for all students by providing teachers and students with best-in-class literacy tools that leverage the science of learning. Rooted in the Science of Reading and the Science of Learning, WordFlight bridges the gap between phonics and fluency. WordFlight provides educators with tools to assess and develop these essential skills, ensuring all students have the opportunity to become proficient readers.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Director of Marketing to drive business expansion and elevate our brand within the K-12 education sector. This individual will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for helping to shape and execute a comprehensive marketing and brand strategy to drive lead generation, increase brand awareness, and support revenue goals and sales initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the ed-tech industry and demonstrated ability to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan that includes a communication and go-to-market strategy, while also directly executing key marketing activities. This role will be instrumental in establishing WordFlight as a trusted brand in the education space while building a predictable, sustainable growth engine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan, including budget creation and management, in collaboration for senior leadership.
- Lead demand generation initiatives with monthly, quarterly, and annual lead generation and sales goals in collaboration with sales management.
- Own and evolve the WordFlight brand to ensure consistency across all marketing channels. Execute on our brand narrative, ensuring differentiation in the EdTech and reading intervention landscape while building trust with educators, administrators, and learners.
- Oversee and execute trade show and convention selection, planning, and participation.
- Manage website content, performance, and optimization to support marketing objectives.
- Execute digital marketing strategies, including social media, email marketing, and direct marketing campaigns.
- Create compelling sales collateral and digital messaging to support the sales team, including customer case studies that highlight the impact of WordFlight in schools and districts.
- Manage and optimize the company’s HubSpot CRM for campaign tracking, lead nurturing, and analytics.
- Support sales with regional marketing campaigns and develop and execute an account-based marketing (ABM) strategy targeting high-value prospects.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to refine messaging and positioning.
- Establish marketing analytics and insights frameworks to track campaign performance, attribution, and customer behavior.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on key performance metrics to optimize marketing effectiveness.
- Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing marketing team across brand, demand generation, events, content, and customer marketing.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product, Customer Experience, and Academics teams to align marketing strategies with business goals.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 10+ years of proven national marketing experience with an ed-tech SaaS product, including a track record of successful execution.
- Strong experience in demand generation, product marketing, and account-based marketing.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute marketing communication plans and budgets.
- Experience working in a startup environment with a self-starter mentality.
- Expertise in sales enablement and the development of marketing assets such as presentations, white papers, and case studies.
- Strong proficiency in marketing analytics and data-driven decision-making.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messaging and positioning.
- Hands-on experience managing HubSpot CRM for marketing operations.
- Strong leadership and project management skills to drive initiatives from concept to execution.
- Passion for education and literacy, with a commitment to making a meaningful impact in public education.
- Experience in EdTech marketing and a deep understanding of the education ecosystem; Science of Reading product and service category experience is a plus.
- Expertise in setting up marketing analytics, attribution models, and insights infrastructure.
- Proven ability to build and execute effective marketing strategy for mid-stage startups.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Graphic design capabilities.
- Deep experience managing HubSpot for lead nurturing, segmentation, and analytics.
- Experience working with public organizations, government entities, K-12 education, higher education, and/or state and local education departments (SLED).
- Proven ability to build and execute data-driven marketing campaigns that drive customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
